Life’s situations can cause hurts to go into the very fiber of our being. Some of these hurts can be defined as traumas.
Trauma does not need to be defined as a horrific experience that no one else has ever experienced. The effects of a humiliating experience when we were young, for instance, can be a pain that remains difficult to overcome and put in the past.
You may have experienced a career of working as a first responder, or any other helping career, that causes Compassion Fatigue. You may have experienced sexual assault, harassment, physical abuse, or emotional abuse. Your “Trauma” can be a capital “T” trauma or a small “t” trauma. Either way, you deserve freedom from the effects of the trauma. You deserve to no longer have the effects prevent you from growing and becoming everything you know you can be and are called to be.
Trauma therapy can help with these situations.
One form of trauma therapy I use is EMDR. EMDR is an evidence-based tool approved by the Veterans Administration to be an accepted and effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This treatment does not just work for PTSD, but also works for success blocks, emotional blocks, sports performance enhancement, and anxiety disorders. And, yes. EMDR helps the past become the past.
EMDR is a technique of therapy which has been proven to be effective in resolving life’s hurts. EMDR is also useful to resolve pain a person may not define as a trauma– Pain remaining from an encounter in the past, leaving behind emotional scar tissue.
